Three movies Manav, Rang and Maina released in theaters

This week three Nepali movies are released in theaters. Actor Saroj Khanal‘s reentry movie ‘Manav’, a historical movie based on real incident, ‘Maina’ and ‘Rang’ are the new releases this week.

Manav

‘Manav’ was supposed to release on February 8 but, it was pushed back a week to release on 15th. The comeback movie of Saroj Khanal features Saroj in Nepali movie after 16 years of absence from Nepali movie industry. The movie directed by Yadav Silwal features Sweta Bhattarai and Dipsikha Shahi in lead roles. The actress Dipsikha has recently renamed herself to Sikha Shahi.

Rang

The movie "RANG" by the long-time assistant of actor Rajesh Hamal, Roshan Thakuri, ‘Rang’ features Rajesh Hamal and Karishma Manandhar in short roles. The lead actors of the movie are Suman Singh and Dipsikha Shahi.  The movie also features Mukesh Acharya. The attire of actress Karishma Manandhar on the press meet of the movie was one of the most talked about topic of last week.

Maina

The movie "MAINA" made on the real story of a 14-year old girl Maina Sunar who was raped and killed by Nepal Army during Maoist insurgency is also released today. The movie features Anita KC as Maina. Other cast of the movie include Govinda Prabhat, Radha Shrestha, Kumar Maharjan, Ram Saran Pathak, Krishna Pathak etc. Maina is directed by KP Pathak. Rekha Thapa explains why she is not uneducated

Actress Rekha Thapa had wanted to head the Nepal Film Development Board (FDB), but her peers had rejected Rekha for not being competent enough. In response to her rejection, Rekha had organized the meet the press event in New York during her month-long visit to USA.

Rekha Thapa had stopped her education after SLC and she didn’t go to college. In the meet-the-press event held in New York, she told that some people call her ‘uneducated’ because of the lack of higher education. She added – those who call her uneducated are fool themselves. She called herself a knowledgeable and capable person in her profession.

To explain her point, she told that she has done more than any educated person in Nepal has done. She also  gave an example of the prime minister who is a PhD degree holder. At this time, he is considered unsuccessful in the role of the prime minister.

Explaining the reason behind the lack of university degree Rekha told, she started working at 16 and didn’t get time to attend colleges. She stressed that the shooting spot is her college and the camera, scripts and other aspects of shooting are her books.

Rekha had also expressed her intention to enter into politics in future and her intention to register a NGO to start social works. Rekha also announced her next project as a producer ‘Kali’ and told that the movie will be directed by Himgyap Tashi.

The event was organized by Nepali Sanchar Sanjal of New York and was held in Himalayan Yak Resturant, Jackson Height, New York. Full video of the press meet was posted earlier.

Movie Review – VISA GIRL | Nepali Movie 2012

At the time people have discounted Nepali movies as money waster, one of the big corporate houses, Chaudhary Group’s wing CG Entertainment has invested on a Nepali film, ‘Visa Girl’. This debut movie of CG Entertainment is released all over Nepal on Friday October 5, 2012. ‘Visa Girl’ features Richa Sharma, Binay Shrestha, Karma, Saloni Raj Bhandari, Raymon Das Shrestha, Reema Biswokarma in leading roles. The movie is also directed by a new entry, Prachanda Man Shrestha.

Story:

‘Visa Girl’ is a story of three boys named Aditya, Riyaj and Sandesh eager to go abroad at all cost. They have enough of their life in Kathmandu and are trying their best to go USA. In a charity program the met a beautiful girl named Stuti, a green card holder, and going  back to the USA soon. The trio named Stuti the Visa Girl and start trying their best to impress her. Let m not ruin your movie watching experience by telling who will be the Visa Girl’s choice and how they compete with each other.

Strength and Weakness

The debut director Prachanda Man Shrestha has tried and succeeded to present a nice story in a very simple way in ‘Visa Girl’. The movie plays safe by delivering the story in a simple way and it feels pleasant to know that, no irrelevant stories or characters are added to elongate the movie.

The background music, music, camera work, editing and location are appreciable and pleasant.  Every scenes follow the main story-line and the story of three individual boys and their love story in presented in a balanced way.

Talking about weakness, ‘Visa Girl’ doesn’t have masala stuffs desired by rural viewers. Although the movie isn’t bad, a little more of entertainment stuffs wouldn’t have harmed. The screenplay and dialogues could also have been made a bit more effective.

Star Cast

Richa Sharma in the role of Stuti, the Visa Girl, has done very good job presenting the character.  Richa looks cute and effective in presenting herself as a NRN. Binay Shrestha plays the role of Aditya, a teacher dreaming to go to the USA. Binay has performed well in his role, as usual. Debut actor Raymon Das Shrestha has also done an appreciable role as Riyaj, a guitarist and a singer. In the role of Sandesh, Karma is seen as a photographer and he has done a great job in his role.

Reema Biswakarma , Saloni Raj Bhandari and Menuka Pradhan are seen in supporting roles and they have also performed well. One of the best parts of ‘Visa Girl’ is that all the actors have given life to their characters and feel natural in their roles.

In addition to the characters mentioned, we can see singer Nima Rumba, model Sahana Bajracharya and actresses Nisha Adhikari and Keki Adhikari on short roles.

Conclusion

In overall, the director Prachanda Man Shrestha’s has been successful in bringing out a simple and entertaining movie, on his first attempt. ‘Visa Girl’ is about the youths of Kathmandu and the youths in city areas would certainly like it. The audience out of valley however might find the movie boring.

I can predict the movie to do good business and but, I don’t see it breaking any previous records of hit movies. I would suggest you to go and watch ‘Visa Girl’ to enjoy a simple story presented in a pleasant way. In the movie, you can witness good works of all the crew members. There aren’t much entertainment stuffs so, keep the expectation low.

Thumbs Up to the whole crew members for an effective team work on brining a good movie.

NEFTA Film festival to start from Feb 14

A film festival is being organized by Nepal Film Technician Association from February 14, 2013. In the sixth edition of the festival the movies released from 2068 Baisakh to 2069 Ashad end will be featured.

After the movies are screened in the festival, the association will present awards to the best movies in various categories. Nepal Film Technician Association has been awarding different awards to movies made in digital technology and celluloid technology.

In a press meet organized in kathamndu the head of Film Development Board (FDB) Pappu, Film Producer Association chief Raj Kumar Rai, and actor Rajesh Hamal were present and they had offered their best wishes to the film festival organizers.

Out of a total of 64 films released from 2068 Baisakh to 2069 Ashad end, only 41 films will participate in the festival.

Many award ceremonies are being held by various organizations and many of them are questioned on their credibility to offer awards. The organizers have told that the award ceremony will be fair and effective. NEFTA awards awards in 31 different categories in addition to a Jury award and a Popular award. The award ceremony will be held on the second week of the first month of Nepali new year 2070.

Rang press meet main attraction Karishma in a short dress

The movie produced by MR Films Production, ‘Rang’ is going to be released on February 15, 2013. The release date of the debut movie of the long time assistant of actor Rajesh Hamal, Roshan Thakuri, was announced by organizing a press meet on February 12 in Kathmandu. One of the main attraction of the event was actress Karishma Manandhar, in a short one piece. Although she didn’t flash her underwear in this event, Karishma is known for showing her underwear in more than one events in the past.

In the yellow dress and matching shoes, Karishma looked younger than her actual age and stunning.

Nepali movie Rang to release on Feb 15

The debut movie of Roshan Thakuri as the director, ‘Rang’ is releasing on February 15, 2013. The movie is produced by MR Film Production and is made on the story of it’s director Roshan Thakuri.

Before jumping into direction, Roshan Thakuri was the personal assistant of actor Rajesh Hamal for a long time.

‘Rang’ is made on the different colors of a human life and it has the tagline ‘hues of life’.  The movie is shot in beautiful places in Pokhara and it’s surroundings.

The movie features Suman Singh, Sumina Ghimire and Dipsikha Shahi in main roles. Other noted actors in the movie are Rajesh Hamal and Karishma Manandhar. Suman Singh is featured in a new looks and character.

During the shooting of the movie, Roshan was rumored to be having an affair with the actress Sumina Ghimire. In one morning Sumina was even found in Roshan’s bathroom by one of the crew members. In a recent news, the actress was found to be having affair with the producer of her upcoming movie ’9 O’clock’ and they are reportedly in Malaysia these days.

Mausami Malla admitted to hospital on her birthday

Actress Mausami Malla is admitted to hospital on her birthday, February 11, 2013 because of health problems.

Mausami had a plan to celebrate her 44th birthday by organizing a program with her friends and family but, because of the health issue, the program was canceled. Mausami says that the health problem might be because of the Artists’ protest and hunger strike. Mausami had participated in the hunger strike in spite of her doctors suggestion. Although, the hunger strike was ended on an agreement with the government, the artists had to do the second phase of the protest when the government didn’t comply with the agreement. Mausami had also participated in the rely-hunger strike in the second phase.

Prior to the first phase of strike, Mausami was diagnosed with a tumor near her uterus. She had completed the prescribed 10-days-long bed rest just before she started the hunger strike. The strike lasted for three days before the government decided to sign the agreement.

In the second phase of the protest, Mausami had postponed the release of her upcoming movie ‘Samaya’ in support of the strike and she had also participate actively in the protest. Mausami’s son Vicky Malla is debuting as an actor in the movie.

Padmini tune stolen from Hindi film Bol Bachchan

The tune of one of the songs of today’s solo release ‘Padmini’, is found to be copied from a Hindi film, ‘Bol Bachchan’.  Although the words are in Nepali rather than Hindi in the original song, the music is exactly the same.

It is common in Nepali movies to copy scenes, music, posters, stories, and even movie names from Hindi movies. In the past, we had compiled a list of Nepali movie posters that were copied from foreign movies – a height of plagiarism!

Due to the creativity crisis many of the Nepali movies don’t do well in theaters. Because of such irresponsibility in movie makers, many Nepali viewers prefer to watch foreign movies.

‘Padmini’ features Nisha Adhikari, Sarita Giri and Anil Thapa in main roles.

In another report, one of the lead actress in the movie, Sarita Giri wasn’t much happy that about only Nisha Adhikari being featured in the poster. And, she apparently wasn’t asked to held in the promotion of the movie.

Nepali movie ‘Hostel’ starts formally

Sunil Rawal’s upcoming movie ‘Hostel’ is officially started on February 8, 2013. After a year-long workshop the movie has finally started in a formal ceremony held in Kamaladi Ganesh temple. The movie will feature a lot of second generation film artists – sons and daughters of well known artists and crew members of Nepali movie industry.

The movie is the second presentation of Sunil Rawal’s Durgish Films. Almost all the casts of the movie are new. The shooting of the movie will start on Falgun 29. Shovit Basnet‘s son Salon Basnet is debuting as the lead actor in the movie. Bhuwan KC‘s son Anmol KC is also one of the leading characters of the movie. The son of actor Tika Pahadi, Gaurav Pahadi will also be seen in the movie. The daughter of Bipana Basnet, a makeup artist in Nepali movie industry, Rista Basnet will also debut in the movie as the lead actress. Similarly, the director Hemraj Chhetri is also debuting as the director in the movie.

The producer Sunil Rawal will also be featured in a special role in the movie. The movie is expected to cost over Rs. 5 millions and is scheduled to release in the first week of June.

Rekha Thapa with US scarf, Nepali flag and the love of nation

After reaching the USA, Rekha Thapa had posted a few photos of hers on Facebook, wearing a scarf with US flag printed on it. Some journalists had criticized Rekha for wearing such a scarf and accused her of embracing US lifestyle. Such an accusations have hurt Rekha’s sentiment and she told us, “I Love my country Nepal for ever.”

Hurt by the media report, she wore a Nepali flag on her chest. But, to her dismay, nobody noticed the photo and there were no report about Rekha’s love for her nation.

Talking to us, Rekha complained about the negative attitude of media and told that she loves our nation a lot and nobody can separate her from the Nation.

First Indo-Nepal musical concert being held in Nepalgunj

A musical concert, Indo-Nepal Musical Concert, is being held in the stadium in Nepalgunj, Banke from today, Magh 27 (February 9, 2013). The three-days-long musical and sports event will wrap up on Monday, Magh 29.

The main guests of the event are actor Rajesh Hamal and actress Karishma Manandhar. In addition, actress Binita Baral, singer and actress Komal Oli, comedian Jitu Nepal and other well known actors and singers will also be present to perform in the event.

The event also include the dance performance of Chamchami dance group.

Sanchita Luitel’s daughter’s pasni, father Nikhil didn’t show up

Actor Nikhil Upreti, the father of Sahisha Upreti didn’t show up in a ceremony held on the 5th month of her birth (pasni) in Kathmandu. A ceremony was held by the mother, actress Sanchita Luitel to celebrate the Pasni of Sahisha  with noted personalities of Nepali movie industry.

Sanchita told that the father, Nikhil is busy in a shooting in Mumbai so couldn’t attend the ceremony. He is coming on Saturday next week to meet the daughter.

In the ceremony, popular film personalities including Hari Bansha Acharya, Deepak Raj Giri, Deepa Shree Niraula, Aryan Sigdel, Dilip Rayamajhi, Mukesh Dhakal, Arunima Lamsal, Ramesh Upreti, Aakash Adhikari, Basundhara Bhusal, Dr. Bhola Rijal were present.

After running away with Nikhil Upreti in 2008, Sanchita had given birth to a son one and half years ago. After exactly a year of the birth of their son, she gave birth to the daughter on the same day, Bhadra 4 (August 10).
